University of California is soliciting scolars to participate in a two-week fiel survey workshop at UCB from April 22 to May 5, 2007. The workshop is funded by a generous grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New-York

The institute of Slavic, East European, and Eurasian Studies (ISEEES) at the University of California, Berkley (UCB) worked out a seminar. The seminar will relate with following fields:

• Civil Liberties, Human Rights, and the Limits of Tolerance;
• Frontiers, Borderlands, and Boundaries;
• Modernisation and Globalization;
• State and Nation-Building in Comparative Perspective;
• The Cultural Turn and Beyond;
• The Idea of Europe.
